Udeet J. Methala
Architect, Sustainability Consultant & Building Performance Simulation Trainer
Udeet J. Methala is a sustainability architect and climate-responsive design specialist with over a decade of experience across India and the Middle East. As the Managing Director of Green Grid Designs, he works at the intersection of architecture, environmental simulation, passive design, and low-carbon development.
His work focuses on building performance optimization, energy modelling, urban sustainability, and integrating climate-responsive strategies into real-world projects.
Through GGD Academy, he trains architects and professionals in sustainable design workflows, environmental analysis, and building performance simulation tools grounded in live project experience.

WHY I TEACH
Consulting-led,
Not tutorial-based.
“I don’t teach software steps. I teach how buildings can actually perform better.
The tools are just how we prove it.”
– Udeet J. Methala
Building performance simulation is still a niche skill in the GCC, yet it’s increasingly central to how projects achieve green rating compliance, energy code conformance and climate-responsive design.
Most practitioners either learn through expensive overseas training, self-teaching, or not at all. I built GGD Academy to close that gap, with training that is technically rigorous, regionally grounded, and built on live project experience rather than theoretical exercises.
Every module I’ve designed draws directly from challenges I’ve encountered in active consultancy work. That’s the difference between learning a software tool and learning how to apply it to real buildings, real clients and real compliance requirements.
What keeps me most engaged is the gap between how buildings are designed and how they actually perform. Across 40+ projects spanning Dubai, Mumbai, and beyond, I’ve seen that gap close – project by project, simulation by simulation – and that’s exactly what I want to equip every student to do.
Simulation ExpertisE
Tools and disciplines I work with daily
Building Energy Modelling
Dynamic thermal simulation from schematic design studies through to LEED and BREEAM compliance documentation. Primary tools: IES VE and DesignBuilder.
IES VE · DesignBuilder · EnergyPlus
Detailed HVAC Simulation
ApacheHVAC modelling for complex system configurations, chilled water plants, VAV, VRF, DOAS, FCU, humidity control and autosizing. The rarest simulation skill in the GCC.
ApacheHVAC · EnergyPlus
Daylighting & Solar Analysis
RadianceIES and SunCast studies for daylight factor, sDA, ASE, glare and façade optimisation — highly relevant for the GCC’s high-glass commercial towers.
RadianceIES · SunCast
Green Building Compliance
LEED, BREEAM, EDGE, ASHRAE 90.1, Estidama Pearl Rating, Al Saf’at, Barjeel, and CIBSE TM54/TM59 compliance simulation and documentation.
LEED · BREEAM · ASHRAE · TM54/TM59
CFD & Natural Ventilation
MacroFlo and MicroFlo analysis for mixed-mode ventilation strategies, overheating risk assessment and natural airflow optimisation in GCC climates.
MacroFlo · MicroFlo · CFD
Sustainable Design & Masterplanning
End-to-end architectural design integrating passive performance from the earliest design stage — across high-rise mixed-use towers, luxury villas and masterplans.
ECBC · LEED · Climate-Responsive Design
Live Project Work
Teaching drawn from real projects
Every course module is grounded in live consulting work, not textbook scenarios.
HVAC AND CFD
Commercial Buildings and Interiors

Commercial tower: HVAC load analysis and LEED EA compliance modelling was used to identifiy a 28% energy saving opportunity through chilled beam system substitution and envelope load reduction through materials selection.
SHADING AND RADIATION
Residential Towers and Villas

Residential compound with passive design and daylighting for green homes. Identified that orienting the main glazing 15° north of the original orientation reduced cooling loads by 18% with no cost impact to the project.
FULL-STACK SIMULATION SET
Mixed- use Green Building

Mixed-use tower in Mumbai: Baseline energy model for IGBC Green Building certification. Scenario modelling across 12 envelope and HVAC combinations identified the optimal cost-to-EPI strategy for the developer.
Training History
Proven delivery track record
A history of structured training delivery across India and the GCC, with multiple cohorts, formats and partnerships.
One of my early cohorts, is a batch of 20 Senior Architects that I trained in 2016 at New Delhi, India. They learnt about using the IESVE software in a way that they can independently apply simulation tools to their work in architecture. Ten years later we still stay in touch to discuss the latest advancements in sustainability!
2024 to Present
GGD Academy — UAE & GCC
Foundation and Advanced HVAC training delivered remotely or in-person to GCC-based professionals. Batches are a mix of UAE/KSA/Qatar professionals.
2020 to Present
IFS Academy — IES VE Training Partner, India
Ongoing Foundation cohort delivery through IFS Academy for the Indian market — multiple batches across working professionals, faculty and students.
2016 to Present
Energy Modeling Training — Corporate Training
Training firms that deploy IESVE and require training for in-house teams as they apply the software on fast-paced projects.
